Activities at our Nursing Home in West Sussex

We think it’s important that any resident that lives in our Nursing Home in West Sussex enjoys an active, healthy and enjoyable lifestyle. We work hard to ensure that our residents have plenty of activities every week from informative talks to quizzes and crosswords and games, as well as outings to local venues in between their usual daily routine. Here are some of the top activities at Country Lodge:

Day trips to the local garden centre

Whilst our Nursing Home in West Sussex offers our residents plenty to do on a day-to-day basis, some residents like to go for day trips in our minibus. The local garden centre seems to be a firm favourite as it’s just a short 10-minute bus trip from Country Lodge, and residents can enjoy a morning of browsing, plenty of cake and of course a cup of tea!

Local musicians and entertainers

Our lounge is the perfect place for our residents to relax, with tea and coffee (and always freshly baked cake) on offer. It’s the ideal area for them to enjoy listening to our visiting musicians. Tim West is a leading folk musician in the area who has been coming in to our Nursing Home for many years and is a great favourite as he not only sings and plays a variety of popular songs, new and old, but also has a huge repertoire of stories and is adept at getting the residents to share theirs. Alex Eberhard comes in regularly and residents and staff alike very much enjoy his fine voice and laid back music accompanied on guitar or keyboards while local resident Graham pops in from time to time to take a turn on our piano which is available for any willing pianist to have a go on. We also have a theatrical group Tickled Pink which does just that performing a variety of different shows throughout the year and we regularly see plenty of toe-tapping!

Games hour with Dolores

At our Nursing Home in West Sussex, routine is key for some of our residents, and there is nothing they like more than a good quiz. We can’t say that it doesn’t always get a little noisy as Dolores with her lovely brogue keeps our residents and their guests in stitches deciphering the questions – let alone get the answers!

Plenty of parties

Any excuse for a party… We are lucky enough to have the most beautiful gardens surrounding Country Lodge, so the moment the sun is out we think it’s a great opportunity for our residents to sit out and enjoy the splendid views. We have two main parties, the summer Garden Party where we get our chefs out on the BBQ. Director John and Mr Fixit Roger are very happy to don a pinny and get cooking while Chris and his team rustle up some delicious salads and puddings. Residents can invite their families along and with Pimms and wine on tap and jolly good band everyone always has a good time – our regular musician, Tim, sometimes turns up to join in too!

In winter it’s time for the Nursing Home to draw the curtains, put up the Christmas Tree and enjoy our wonderful Punch and Carols evening with the choir and vicar from St Symphorians Church. Our event is very popular not least because of the delicious buffet menu Claire dreams up every year!
